Southern California is known for it’s amazing geography and many of us are lucky enough to live in beautiful areas surrounding canyons, hills, and other rural areas. Along with this landscape come snakes, bugs, and coyotes just to name a few. Encounters with these animals are inevitable for some of us but minimizing the chances of this for the safety of yourself and your family using a concrete Stackwall.
When it comes to snakes, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (www.dfg.ca.gov), the best protection against rattlesnakes in the yard is a “rattlesnake proof” fence (http://stackwall.com/concrete-fence-products/). The fence should either be solid or with mesh no larger than one-quarter inch. It should be at least three feet high with the bottom buried a few inches in the ground. Stackwall’s stylish yet functional fences are made of high-grade concrete and are solid without any gaps. The solid panels can also be buried however many inches you need.
Coyotes on the other hand have the physical ability to go under, through, or over many types of fences. While coyotes generally prefer to dig under fences or go through fence gaps at gates or washouts, some coyotes have the inclination to jump or climb fences, particularly at corners or where cross-braces provide a foothold. To protect against coyotes, a fence should be at least 5 ½ ft tall, however Stackwalls can be built up to 8 ft tall if necessary with the added protection of being underground a few inches. It is recommended to bury below at least 4 – 6 inches.
Stackwall is perfect to help deter critters and protect your property & people, particularly children from any encounters with potentially dangerous situations with these wild reptiles, insects and animals. Help protect your own furry ones like your dogs and cats as well!
